Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Earth Observation (EO) enable industries to easily access data about their surroundings, assets and operations. Using this data they can quickly derive actionable insights and improve their decision processes. The rapid development of enabling technologies such as Internet of Things, cloud computing, Big Data and artificial intelligence spurs progress in the GIS and EO sector.

GEO Living Labs
An Open Innovation initiative
Work together on breakthrough GIS and Earth Observation applications within our vibrant technology transfer network.
GIS and EO
Goals of a GEO Living Lab
A GEO Living Lab creates tangible win-wins for start-ups, GIS, geodata and earth observation experts and corporate industry. All stakeholders in a living lab work on breakthrough applications at the intersection of the crucial fields of GIS and EO.
GEO Living Labs lower the barriers to realize the full socio-economic potential of GIS and Earth Observation.
Fund It
Next to the funding and support programs detailed on the Space Solutions website, we offer guidance & advice in finding innovation funding.
Who’s it for?
A GEO Living Lab creates value bringing the following entities together:
- Corporate industry
- Startups and SMEs
- Research centers
- Individual GIS and EO experts
- Technology labs
- Data providers
- Innovation service providers

Inspiring GEO applications
Streamlining renewables

Site selection for wind turbines needs streamlining. Geospatial data provides information on population density, constant wind speed, distance to roads, environmental constraints (migratory bird flight paths, migration routes) or health factors (shadow flicker of wind turbine blades, etc.).
Construction and infrastructure

Future construction and large infrastructure project update reports can be supplemented with aerial or satellite imagery showcasing the advancement in the project in 3D (location, boundaries crossing, height incrementation, etc.).
Smart agriculture

Farmers can track crop performance, monitoring anomalies such as crop stress, nitrogen deficiency, water stress. Automated alert systems inform the farmer. Smart actions result in the highest possible output per plant/ha.
