Space for Smart Cities: Opportunities for the development of space-enabled applications
IoT is already present in many aspects of daily life: health & fitness applications, security, home automation, smart cities, connected vehicles, energy, etc. Whatever their purpose, these solutions may require global interconnectivity, precision timing, positioning, remote monitoring or geo-information.
Space assets such as satellite communication, navigation, Earth observation or human spaceflight technology can satisfy some of these needs and thus empower these services. During the Space for Smart Cities talk, we will explore some of the space-enabled services that can make cities smarter and explain how ESA Space Solutions can give companies the right tools to further develop their IoT business.
From 2019 on, the Internet of Things Convention Europe will host the 3iF Industry 4.0 Conference. This collaboration creates new opportunities for visitors and sponsoring partners as well, with more speakers, better focus, a broader audience and more business opportunities for all parties involved.

ESA has opened a call to foster Space Technology Transfer.
The FEASIBILITY STUDIES (FS) aims at assessing the feasibility of the adaptation and the use of a space technology to another field of application. The FS shall encompass the technical risks, identify user requirements, study the market and develop an operational plan towards a successful technology transfer.
1 month FS projects will be funded up to a maximum of 10k €.
The PROOF OF CONCEPT (PoC) is directed to demonstrate to a user that the space heritage meets their main functional and technical requirements by building a breadboard.
6 month PoC may be funded up to a maximum of 50k €.
Space origin can be hardware or software, know-how, processes, methodologies and systems developed or adapted for space applications. When the technology was not originally developed for space, but adapted and qualified to the space conditions, there should be clear benefits/teachings that the adaptation for the space field brings to the new applications (eg: size and weight reduction, material used, test results, etc).

ESA and Verhaert are strengthening their collaboration with a new initiative: ESA Space Solutions Belgium. To support the Belgian space ecosystem, they join forces for technology transfer and business incubation. On Wednesday 7 November Verhaert presented ESA Space Solutions Belgium to about 140 guests in Agoria’s BluePoint Brussels.
