Hailing from Belgium, Deltatec presents a groundbreaking innovation in imaging technology with the High-Speed Camera for the Compact Hyperspectral Instrument Engineering Model (CHIEM). As pioneers in the field, Deltatec brings forth a sophisticated solution that pushes the boundaries of compact VNIR hyperspectral imaging. At the heart of the CHIEM project lies an engineering marvel: a high-speed camera integrated into a compact VNIR hyperspectral imager, compact enough to fit within the confines of a shoebox.
Leveraging the latest advancements in thin film interference filters technology, the CHIEM sensor achieves unparalleled spectral resolution spanning from 470 to 900 nanometers. Unlike conventional methods, which rely on linear thickness variation on glass substrates, CHIEM employs a novel technique developed by imec. This technique allows for the direct deposition of filter material onto the detector at wafer level, ensuring pixel precision and flexibility in geometric filter designs while minimizing sensitivity to stray light. The innovative aspects of the CHIEM camera are multifaceted. Notably, the deposition of filters on Backside Illuminated (BSI) sensors enhances sensitivity by two to three times compared to traditional Front Side Illuminated detectors.
Additionally, the inclusion of two panchromatic views on the same sensor facilitates both hyperspectral and conventional imaging, enabling sharper vision. Moreover, the CHIEM camera boasts an advanced hybrid architecture for electronics, incorporating Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components, RADHARD components, and fault-tolerant mechanisms. This hybrid approach ensures reliability and performance in demanding environments. On the image processing front, the CHIEM camera excels in handling very high data rates, thanks to the CMV12000 sensor from AMS Xilinx. With the ability to output images at a rate of 300 frames per second, each containing 12 megapixels coded on 10 bits, the CHIEM camera delivers unmatched performance.
Advanced correction techniques such as Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN), Photo Response Non-Uniformity (PRNU), and bad pixel correction are applied in real-time, further enhancing image quality. In seeking partnerships, Deltatec offers its expertise in Read-Out Electronics, ensuring seamless acquisition and storage of images without compromising data rate. With its cutting-edge technology and unwavering commitment to innovation, Deltatec is poised to redefine the landscape of hyperspectral imaging, driving advancements in various fields including aerospace, environmental monitoring, and beyond.
