Technology need
Summary of the technological need
A search for highly resistant and transparent materials for microfluidic chips.
Background
Manetco works on the development of small scale continuous process equipment for R&D in chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Corrosive chemicals and high temperatures are often used in these industries which required high performances materials.
For examples, chloride and fluoride acids, often used in chemical reactions, require the use of equipment in ceramic, like SiC, which are complicate to manufacture. In addition, flow chemistry applications generally require micro or milli-scale channels inside the chamber and the process efficiency can be strongly affected by the presence of bubbles or particles.
Manetco is working with a partner who develop a new digital manufacturing technology to simplify the production of ceramic chips. However, ceramic , being not transparent, complexify the continuous follow up of the process.
The use of transparent polycrystalline diamond is a very promising solution, combined to the micromachined ceramic, to create a new class of microreactor for severe environments.
Ideally, we are looking for an industrial partner who has developed a transparent polycrystalline diamond and/or a way to bind it on ceramics like SiC technology. We are interested to discuss about subcontracting, co-development or licence transfer.
